Dear Potential Student,

Thanks for inquiring about dance classes. I have been teaching for over fifteen years and I am known as a

“technique teacher.”   Belly dancing or Raks Sharqi (Eastern dance) is one of the great loves of my life.  I enjoy

sharing this beautiful art form with women and girls and helping them to find their inner dancer and experience more

joy in their lives.  Included in my classes are cultural and historical, costuming and make-up information.  I teach

both cabaret (nightclub or stage) belly dancing, as well as traditional folklore from various countries.  Tribelle Chic

is also included.

What is Tribelle Chic?  It is an improvised style of group dancing that is known as American Tribal Style of

belly dance.  It has been sweeping the country for the last ten years. Tribelle Chic is the style I teach.  We wear

colorful Gypsy style costumes with elaborate belts, headpieces and jewelry.

There are many opportunities for students to perform at informal haflas, dance recitals and other events.  Some

students simply want to take classes for exercise or stress relief – that is fine too.  Monthly haflas provide an outlet

for fun, creative expression and an opportunity for both the novice and professional dancer to perform new works or

polished routines.

Belly dancing can and often is a powerful tool for women to awaken their bodies, rekindle their spirits and

oftentimes change their lives for the better.  I believe that Belly Dancing is a healing force for women – it encourages

growth and new directions.  Many life-long friendships are formed in the belly dance world.

Belly Dancing is about women supporting women – it is about the beauty and artistry of an ancient art form.  It

is about courage, talent, skill, displaying emotions that are cute, sultry, clever, and yes, even sexy, but that is only

part of this dance.  By researching, studying and promoting this art form in America – I believe that we are helping

women in the Middle East – we are saying we think your art - your dance is special.  We love it – we want to study and

promote it, and little by little, we can bring cultural awareness into the world and an understanding and appreciation of

other art forms, cultures and people. And hopefully help to bring about world peace.

Join me on this journey to far away times, lands and the mystical, magic world of belly dancing.
